It was surprisingly relatively easier than I thought, to let go of Kathak as I moved to Chicago to a completely new life not even thinking of pursuing dance as a full time career (just yet). I started at the age of 9 when my family moved to Pune (from Bhilai, MP where I was born) and pursued it for over 12 years until I finished my undergraduate in Computer Engineering and came to the US to pursue further studies. Growing up I was a trained classical dancer in Kathak. That’s really when my ballroom dancing journey began.

I was blown away! I couldn’t take my eyes off of them and I must have watched that video many more times that night. One of my good friends showed me a video of Patrick Swayze, the one from Dirty Dancing where they were dancing a Mambo. I was a student in IIT Chicago where I was pursuing my Masters program in Computer Science - like most Indians. It was one of those long nights on my on-campus job at a computer lab in my school.
